Cricketers Arms (Rickling Green, 4 miles north of Bishop's Stortford, ½ mile west of B1383, 7 Miles from Stansted (international) airport, Essex) (01799) 54321 Fax: (01799) 543512. Situated on the village green where the county cricket side still play. Lots of cricket connections and memorabilia. In 1882 the highest score made in a single innings on a single day was played here, 920! (Rickling Green v Orleans Club). A pub with a unique cellar arrangement. Fake barrel ends conceal a temperature controlled cellar behind the bar with barrels on trolleys at head height. Beers on at the time were: Flowers IPA, plus guest beers, plus a selection of bottle conditioned beers. Good food is served with imaginative menus that specialises in mussels. Accommodation here with 7 en-suite bedrooms. This pub has none of the impersonal nonsense of big chains. Worth a visit. Children's play area.
