A mock Tudor fronted pub with seven guest beers always available from a changing range including Cains Bitter as a regular. This is a multi-roomed pub with a single bar that serves them all. The first room to your left as you enter is the sports room as it has a TV in the corner, though there are screens throughout the pub. The decor is high ceiling and padded high backed settles with round tables and some stools. The bar area is small here but you can be easily seen to get service. The main bar area is through another set of doors. This room with its bare floors and stools at the bar has a lower ceiling and is darker, gloomy almost. You will find the guest ale board here - all at sensible prices. All beers are served with a tight sparkler, ask if you want proper beer. There are some settees further down the room to the end of the bar and an alcove has a pool table and more seating is available in a room opposite the bar. There is food here, but only at lunchtime - choices are traditional. There is access for the disabled here and a disabled toilet is available. Close to the station it is just across the ringway from the main shopping street and a Wetherspoon is on the opposite side of the road. The pub is twice a previous winner of West Lancs Pub of the Year.

Sunday Meals are also now served all day until 7pm. The beers can be up to 5 at times with two on stillage behind the bar. Try to go towards the weekend as mid-week they run out of beer.

Market Tavern
33-35 Market St

Preston

Not surprisingly this pub is next to Preston market - hence the name. The outside has a dark and Victorian feel to it, but the interior is even better. Inside there are wood tile floors and a series of booths for that intimate evening out. To say it has a Victorian flavour is an understatement, the inside is a real gem. All the furniture is of the dark thickly padded variety. They serve some good real ales here and usually one from Brysons - a regular supplier. They only have three hand pumps though - a fourth to be added soon. If you fancy some foreign beers they have them too in bottles. There is no music here to spoil your conversation. Close to the railway station and not far from the Black Bull above.
