This is a hotel pub set in beautiful countryside and well worth a visit. It serves only Lees beers, but they are welcome enough for anyone. On at the time were Lees Bitter and GB Mild. Food is served lunch and evenings and is good wholesome food at not too expensive prices. The lounge bar is an open plan affair, but that doesn't detract from the friendly feeling inside. A no smoking area is provided, though the real fire can do a bit of that in wild winter weather. The public bar is smaller and typical of its type. Outside they have their own bowling green!? Access for the disabled is good. Accommodation here is good too, well worth a stay. It also has a local railway station stop a short walk away.

Additional Notes: The beer was good but the food awful. My husband ordered a Ploughman's and when it came 30mins later consisted of a small amount of sweaty cheese (looked processed) 1/4 tomato, 3 slices of cucumber, pate which was liquid and looked inedible, Some chutney, rocket and the smallest bread roll. Had to ask for butter. The plate was hot!!! My husband didn't eat it and it is one place we shall not visit again. We have had Ploughman's lunch in many pubs but never one like that. (8/8/04)
Having visited the Golden Pheasant pub in Plumley, Knutsford this March 05, I found the food to be fairly priced, piping hot and served with a smile.... Something I don't often see in North America, well with out them wanting a huge tip first. Keep up the good work !!

A 400 Year Old Thatched Pub, The Smoker manages to have the feel of a more modern place while retaining that mellow authenticity which is inseparable from old buildings. It has open fires, separate lounges, a dining room, garden with play area and ample parking. They serve Robinson's draught beers, fine selection of wines by the glass and bottle, and a collection of malt whiskies rarely seen outside Scotland. A wide selection of reasonable priced food is available from the menu and from blackboard specials served lunchtimes and evenings everyday and all day on Sundays. No accommodation here but try Golden Pheasant, Plumley Moor Lane (off A556) (01565) 722261.
