PENNINGTON
The Musketeer (North Street, Pennington, Hampshire, SO41 8FZ) (01590) 676572. To get here from Brockenhurst, take the A337 to Lymington. Follow the A337 to the first roundabout and turn right into North Street - easy. This free house is situated on the South Coast of England and quite near to the New Forest which is only three miles to the north. If you fancy a walk you can make it to the Solent which is within walking distance. A place for the real drinker, the Musketeer is one of the few remaining non restaurant pubs in the area, although food is available the emphasis is on the traditional - no juke box, no pool, no loud music, no fruit machines. The home made food is excellent quality. Lunches are available Monday - Saturday and cost between £1.75 and £4.50 (when reviewed). A three course evening meal is available on Saturdays and will cost around £12. If you really want to try out the food, then I recommend you book. On the warmth side, there is a real log fire for winter. There is usually at least one guest ale on, though there could be more in the future. Alas there is no accommodation here.
