The Red Cat is a
friendly, traditional country style 3 diamond pub/hotel, built circa 1900 and
run by the fourth generation of the Irwin family. Constructed in local carrstone
it has a lot to offer. Very much
an historic old English feel, it is situated just outside the medieval town of
King's Lynn, next to the once old railway station, bordering on the Wash
Marshes. The decor inside is amazing, there is a superb oak beam latticed
breakfast room overlooking the extensive lawned grounds. The pub is always a
popular haunt with local characters who forever have a yarn or two to spin-but
don't take them too seriously though. The Red Cat is also a regular venue for
keen sporting fraternities and other groups. The single bar is a 'J' shape
separated at the tip by a pillar. While space between bar and seating can be
narrow, there is plenty of other seating available at the small round tables.
Bench seating
abounds with the rest made up of stools and chairs - some stools at the bar. On
the walls is a collection of various bric a brac and curios from times past,
reflecting some of West Norfolk's finest history gone but not forgotten. Well
know around the area for its real ales. Food is available from the bar menu at
lunch and evenings. The actual mummified Red Cat of the pub name can be seen
displayed pride of place in its very own illuminated case on one of the overhead
pillars in the main bar, for the ghoulish amazement of all onlookers. There is accommodation
here, eight rooms all tastefully decorated and En-suite from single £28, Double
£50, Twin Room £52. Quiz nitghts are on Wednesday's every fortnight.
