Crown
(Munslow, B4368, Near Craven Arms, Shropshire,
SY7
9ET) (01584) 841205. Resembling a Little Pub Company
establishment from the outside (all blue and white paint), this is actually a brew pub of
distinction. Situated on the busy B4368 in the heart of Covedale, it can be a hazard to
get from the carpark across the road sometimes. The Georgian exterior hides a Tudor
interior with lots of beams and a low ceiling. A real fire also greets you on entrance.
The 'L' shaped bar is small but the staff are efficient. There are many nooks and crannies
to sit and hide in - very good for intimate meetings. There are usually two beers on both
brewed on the premises in a SMALL room by the stone flagged floor drinking area. A mixture
of furnishings abound but are usually round dark wooden tables and chairs. The 'eating'
area (though you can eat anywhere) is up a small step. Food served here has many
flavours,
though Thai is a specialty. Prices rise to £7.95 for steak and there is a vegetarian
choice (£5.50). Food is made to order so come early. Beers on at the time were Boy's Pale
Ale and Munslow Ale (brewed on the premises) plus Bank's Bitter. More recently
they have added more guest ales, click on the brewpub link below to find out. All were reasonably
priced. Outside there is a drinking area , though it's close to the road and donkey in the
garden! The bread oven by the fire is a particularly striking feature, as is the lack of
music. Closed in the afternoons. The landlord - Vic - is happy to show you the brewery if
it's quiet and let you hang out there and take in the smells. There was roumour of his
selling up, but he scotched that when asked. Disabled access is OK, though toilets require
a step or two. Accommodation here.
