The Countryman Freehouse
Bradwell Common Boulevard
Milton Keynes

Buckinghamshire
(01908) 676346.

The Countryman is about 15 minutes walk from the station. From the station doors walk directly to the main road in a straight line. Turn left and walk down Grafton Gate to the roundabout, then go straight over and carry on until you see a supermarket sign for 'Aldi' on your right. This is Bradwell Common Boulevard. Walk down there until you come to a roundabout, The Countryman should now be visible up ahead on your left. Now that you have got there, sample the real ales at the bar, usually a minimum of five are available at any one time. Alas it has no accommodation. However, this is made up for by the pleasant nature of the landlord (Mr. O'Shea) who is willing to discuss anything with you. The last time RA&AB were there he told us he was putting together a list of local B&B. So ring before you go and stay the night. The Countryman also does food, but not on Saturday nights, though sandwiches were available at the latest beer festival (22/2/97). The restaurant is situated at the back of the pub (until 6pm Saturdays) and away from the bar so should be good for children. RA&AB were not able to test the food, but if it's as good as the beer, then you shouldn't have any worries. This is the second time RA&AB has visited during a mini beer festival and the beers available this time were: York - Yorkshire Terrier; Belhaven - 5 Nations; Caledonian - ERA; Hart - Nemisis; MacLay - 80/- amongst others. Last time they were: Swales - Periwinkle Ales; Rooster - China Black; Black Bull - Black Bull; Townes - First Light and about 14 others. The licensee is Jon O'Shea (been in the business for 20 years), 8 real ales usually always on as The Countryman is a free house.

Additional Notes: The Countryman in Bradwell Common, Milton Keynes has recently been taken over by the Charles Wells brewery and has been refurbished throughout.  The landlord is now Tony Harris & his good lady wife, June.  The food is excellent and they have a good range on the menu.  It is served from 11:30 - 14:30 & from 18:30 - 22:30.
