Crown and Anchor (Oxford Road, Marlow, SL7 2NN, Bucks) (01491) 576100. Situated in the Georgian riverside town only 30 miles from London, half an hour from both Heathrow and Oxford, and even less from Windsor. The town has its own Web site. The earliest record of the Crown and Anchor in the County records is 1757 when there is a record of food and drink being served. In 1999 the pub was purchased by Dres and John Trueman, who own Henley House, and the pub underwent a major refurbishment. The refurbishment exposed features which had been hidden for centuries and give the opportunity to install the most modern heating and fire detection systems for guests comfort and safety. The pub is the sole outlet for Sam Trueman's beers which are brewed in a 5 barrel plant at Henley House. The Brewery is a 5 barrel plant producing Best Bitter (3.5%), Tipple (4.2%), Gold(5%), Lager(4.2%). All beers are brewed with water, yeast, malt and hops. They also produce Percy's Downfall (8.2%). Always a tasty selection of food at lunch including home cooked ham and beef. If you are in a hurry or want to take the food away they will be happy to take an order by phone. In addition there are theme evenings. They do accommoadtion too, 2 double en-suite rooms. Each room has full facilities including colour TV, tea and coffee. The Inn has been designed around the letting rooms and assurances are given that the pub will never be noisy after 11pm. Rooms are £60 per night including continental breakfast and VAT.
