This pub was built on the eve of the second world war and has a very 1930's feel and look to it. Situated right on the fork of the road towards Atherstone it is not an imposing building and has a freehouse sign outside as it has been acquired by the Lord Nelson Inn in Ansley. As such it has a guest beer policy (despite the fact that it sells Bass and M&B Brew XI. It tends to only have one guest per week - on this occasion Wolf Best Bitter - but it is well kept. It also does food and the restaurant has recently been enlarged to cope with demand. Food is wholesome and has some non-traditional twists too. The restaurant can get busy so come early. If you have to wait there are traditional pub games to be played. Outside drinking area. Accommodation here but also try: Old Red Lion, 99 Long Street, Atherstone, CV9 1BB. 10 km from the centre of Atherstone, price £23-£35 en-suite.
