This pub isn't hard to find as it has its very own road sign (on the right) on the far edge of town if travelling towards Bedwas. Underneath the railway arch turn right and you will see its car park. A very unassuming place from the outside and a veritable Titanic of salvaged ship memorabilia on the inside. You enter down a long corridor covered in wood panelling past a raised seating area. Turning left up the steps is the bar area. With a few nooks and crannies to hide in there is a real fire to keep you warm in winter. Seating is all old wooden tables and chairs, some carvers. Here the small bar at the far end serves up to three guests, though on this occasion there was only one on - Arundel Old Conspirator, plus Hancock's HB. Opposite the bar is a seated eating area plus bar. Food is good wholesome stuff, though vegetarian choices are limited. Food can be served throughout the pub. Note on Sunday they only do Sunday lunches - 3 courses £6.95! The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, though can get smokey due to the labyrinth of passageways. No music is played so conversation is possible. Outside there is a beer garden with a children's climbing frame come swing area. Accommodation here, though not seen on this visit. Not disabled friendly.

Additional Notes: Brilliant, friendly pub. (Dave Rider)
Hi, it's been a number of years since I was able to enjoy GREAT BEERS at the White Hart in Machen. I have been living in the USA since 1955. To date have never enjoyed American Beer, also Australian in same category, Pure ****, N.Zealand has for my taste good beers. Here now that Micro Beers are being produced one can buy a good American brew. In general we can buy beers from many countries, and cheaper than in country of origin. At one time could buy Felinfoel beer but have not seen it in years, perhaps too much demand elsewhere. Fair does all imported beers I have seen here have been brewed and bottled in country of orign, except for an Australian brand brewed in the USA by Budwiser ( a Perfect **** Match ) Well if I'm in Machen again I'll sure be in for a few beers, I lived in Machen for two years left in 1954.
