Britannia
Inn (Horseshoe Pass,
Llangollen, North Wales, LL20 8DW) (01978) 860144. The Britannia inn was built in
the 14th Century by the Monks of the nearby Valle Crucis Abbey. The Inn is
situated at the foot of the Horseshoe Pass and has a commanding view
of
the Vale of Llangollen. Well known throughout the area for it's good food and hospitality,
the Inn is a favourite for locals and holiday maker's alike. As well as featuring in all
the quality Food and Hotel guides it has also featured in many publications abroad, more
recently it was favoured in the L.A. Times as the place to stop in North Wales. Another
attraction for visitors to the Inn is it's award winning gardens, credited with no less
than 15 Wales in Bloom awards. Many visitors seek out the Head Gardener for advice on
plants, flowers and hanging baskets and more than a few go away clutching a cutting or two
and smiling broadly. Many of the flowers in the garden are rare as they were grown
experimentally by the gardener for Dobie's seeds. The Inn has accommodation and each of
the seven en-suite bedrooms are individually decorated and furnished to a high standard.
All the rooms are decorated in a cottage style and each double or family room boast either
a four poster or half tester bed. All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and a
colour television. An iron and ironing board is also provided. If you have a preference
for either bath or shower you should ask when booking. Fine foods, wines and hand pulled
real ales can be enjoyed in both lounges. The food menu offers a wide and varied selection
of home cooked foods. Fresh produce and attention to detail have made the Britannia Inn
the first choice for many a local and hungry traveller. From the ever popular Britannia
Homemade Steak pie to our Stuffed Plaice Royal, they guarantee you a pleasurable dining
experience, whether it be in the comfortable surroundings of the two lounges or weather
permitting, outside on the garden terrace. For your comfort one of the lounges is strictly
no smoking. The beers on offer are Theakston's Best and Theakston's Old Peculiar. They
also offer wines from throughout the world and a variety of bottled beers. Both lounges
abound with antique brass, can you guess what the object is above the main fireplace?
