8JF) (01706) 812929. The pub, Road: situated on the A646 Halifax to
Burnley road, has stone walls, flag floors and stuffed animals abound
(definitely not PC). There is also a superb fish tank. For the winter there is a
real fire to warm yourself by. Beers on this time were: Taylor's Golden Best @
£1.60, Taylor's Best Bitter @ £1.66, Taylor's Landlord @ £1.86 plus a guest
beer. All were served in excellent quality. Food is served at the Staff of Life
and is all home-made and moderately priced. Prize-winning pies and authentic
curries a specialty, with fancy steaks and vegetarian choices too. Food is
served 7-9.30pm and 12-2.45pm at weekends. There is accommodation here which is
modern, spacious and comfortable with all facilities. Prices start at £24 a
single and £36 a double including sumptuous breakfast. Rating.
The reviewer liked everything about the pub, regretting having to go home.
| Additional Comments: | A superb pub - well worth seeking out. All four real ales were in excellent condition; there was also cask Boddingtons for those who like that sort of thing! Also a selection (5) of bottled Belgian beers, and a good selection of malts. Food (and accommodation) excellent (how do they do it at the price?), but perhaps most impressive is the warmth of the welcome - even my three young children were made to feel special in what is basically an adult pub. |
