KENILWORTH
Tut and Shive (Warwick Road, Kenilworth, Warwickshire). This is one of those pubs owned by Whitbread in the vein of the Firkin's, you know, all fake beams and odds and ends, including a shopping trolley (with the name removed). They have at least two real ales on at any one time (Hook Norton Best & Gales IPA at time of visit) and the usual crowd of Boddingtons, Flowers, and Worthington. There is no accommodation as it's just a 'drinking' pub for the young set. On a Saturday night it is busy to the gills and the low ceiling makes it a smoke trap - ventilators a must! The bar area has three distinct areas, one a games area full of pinball, fruit and video machines, another smaller area where it's difficult to stand, let alone move and the area by the windows where you can sit around a table in a group - though people rarely do here. There are no dress restrictions, though a bouncer stands on the door at night and is rather too polite to be a bouncer. All in all, if you like it loud and young and still like a pint of the good stuff, this is the place to go.
