Situated on the A483 1 mile south of Llandrindod Wells. The pub is victorian in style with an open fire in the back bar which has a dart board too. Lovely 450 year old oak beam across middle of ceiling and an interesting hand carving around the small servery. Very tidy bar. Warm welcome. Lounge very smart. Nice oak central bar servery. Not best for disabled visitors as there is a step down to the toilet. This is a food pub with real ale. The food is traditional and as welsh as possible. This is a twice mid Wales cook of the year finals 1995 and 1996 finalist is David Day the chef. They have a Heart Beat Wales award for clean kitchen, healthy food and hygiene standards. Taste of Wales food organisation has accredited them. The CAMRA guide has listed them since 1987. Also in the good Pub Food Guide 1999 has excellent write up and even published a quality starter dished. Very friendly starters from £2.75 main course from £7.00 puds around £3.00. The owners cook all the food. You won't see a frozen food van outside this place. The landlady Janet does the bar at night and kitchen at lunchtime. David does the bar at lunchtime and he is the chef at night. Food times: 12-1.45pm and 7-9pm ish. Beer is Drovers Ale 4.2%. House beer brewed by Woods, of Winstonstow Shropshire exclusively for the Drovers Arms. The Drovers has sold this beer for 5 years. It is very fresh with a lovely round flavour. The gravity can be from 3.2 to 6.5 but is usually around 4.2. An excellent pint. There is en-suite accommodation here and this place is worth staying at. The rooms are spacious, warm, clean and tidy. The price per person per night is around £20-£22. They have a twin en-suite and a new double en-suite. Off road parking also available. This is a real old fanshioned pub as they used to be with a great food and beer reputation. There are no juke boxes or fruit machines. Conversation is what this pub is about, pity not more than one real ale. They do have guest ales occasionally. They also have their own web site
Situated in the lovely village of Howey, this is a Brains pub and so serves two of their ales - Bitter and Dark plus three guest ales. They also do a selection of wines. Food is served here both lunch and evening. The lunch menu is traditional and ranges from sandwiches to lasagne £2.25-£7.50. Evening courses start from around £6 and upwards. There are choices for vegetarians, so they should be catered for. The building itself is an 18th century and there is a collection of beer-related books inside. The atmosphere is good here and children can be accommodated for food. No accommodation here.
