An imposing building in the
middle of nowhere, or so it seems. A warm welcome is guaranteed and the beers
are also a very welcome sight. All come from the on-site brewery - Porter. The
pub has the look and feel of your nan's front room - very cosy, very welcoming.
There is a seating area/dartboard at the front on the left as you enter - bare
floor and large hatch area. The bar is to the rear of the pub and has stools at
it. As all the beers come from the Porter brewery, they are lined up on hand
pumps to delight at. And the price is also something you will marvel at - £1.40
a pint. All are served well and taste just great. There is a TV in the bar area,
but it's not always on. The other seating area is to the right of entrance. and
has tables and chairs and some settle
seating.
The walls have the usual brass and old pictures on them. A huge single beam goes
right through the pub and over a small dais with a table for two... A real fire
next to the gents has a nice mantle and provides some real heat for the pub,
exposed as it is on the edge of a hill overlooking the town. Not quite in the
centre, it is out towards the A56 on the Accrington side. There
is no food served here.
No accommodation here. Well worth finding out if travelling north from Bolton,
Bury, Rochdale.
