Decked out like an American bar in style with tall stools and leaning post seating. Around the walls are old bits and bobs - books and pictures of hand pull signs, beer mats and bar clips on walls and under glass. Background music can get a little loud at times, though it's not too bad. In winter there is a real fire by the raised seating area (deck flooring, the main floor has carpet.) where there are tables and bench seating. More tables are by the window with stools and benches - in fact a lot of seating for the size really. The bar (brick with wood top) is long, on the right on entrance with a tile back. The bar has up to six guest ales on at a time and organises frequent beer festivals for charity. Beers on at the time were: Mallard Duckling, Weetwood Best, Coachouse Blunderbuss Porter, Adnams Extra, and Church End Stocking Filler. Food is served (lunch and eve, not Sun) with a good choice for vegetarians and is keenly priced - stilton and cauliflower soup £2.50. The average price is £4-£5. The upstairs restaurant has now been refurbished and is open for food. Disabled access poor due to steps to get in and to clean toilets. Car park at rear next to the rail station. No accommodation here.
[NOT SUN]

Additional Notes: Staff in the Helter Skelter so friendly and nice nothing a problem even in busy times, food in bar and restaurant like nothing on earth well worth a visit. (Colin Murphy - 30/1/04)
