FRIETH.

You can find the Prince in the village of Frieth, just off the B482. The pub itself is an old fashioned gem, resembling a cottage. A Brakspears pub it naturally serves some great beer: XXX Mild, Bitter and Special. Once you enter the Prince, you feel welcomed by the sight of hop bines to the left on the low beams - mind your head tall people. There is a big black stove in an inglenook and a real log fire to warm in winter. We are not sure about the bison's head next to the inglenook. The decor also includes copper pots and pans and jugs hung about the walls and shelves. Note also the bottle cabinet. There are two main seating areas and a restaurant which has only been added recently. The food is excellent and all home made. It sticks to the traditional side of pub food, but doesn't lose anything by doing so. Prices are as you would expect in Bucks, but otherwise good. Seating is a mixture of benches and chairs. Outside there is a planted garden with seating to admire the views in summer. Used a lot by ramblers for the local country walks. No accommodation here but try: South Fields, Cadmore End, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. HP14 3PJ. (2 km from Frieth). Price: under £40 for en-suite.
