The Dinton Hermit

North West over the fields or 5 miles by country roads takes you to Ford and the freehouse
Dinton Hermit, a friendly and cosy 15th century stone cottage village inn in Water Lane.
The pub is named after a hermit who lived in a nearby cave whose history is displayed in
the pub. One of his famous boots is held in Aylesbury Museum. Beers on sale are A.B.C
Bitter (£1.90), Adnams Bitter (£1.95) and Wadworths 6X (£2). The beer is cheaper in the
bar than the saloon. There is no juke box. The public bar is to the left and has scrubbed
tables and a wood burning stove in a large inglenook to keep you warm in winter. On the
right is the lounge bar with its log fire and plush red seats along the wall. further
seating is red leatherette and there is a small room leading off. Food is wholesome and
filling. Bookings (not required for lunchtimes) are taken for evening meals in the saloon
and it was good to see Chiltern Brewery mustards on the tables. Examples are soup £2,
vegetarian hotpot £4.95 and home made bread pudding £2.75. traditional pub games are
also played as is darts and dominoes. Outside there is a beer garden opposite with swings
and chairs, etc for children. Open 11am-2:30pm and 6pm-11pm, but closed Monday lunch. No
accommodation here.
