A quiet pub set in flat countryside not far from junc 24 of the M5. Inside it is comfortable and timeless mainly favoured by
locals, however, like most Somerset pubs out in the sticks, it is a free house and serves
Butcombe Bitter and Thomas Hardy Royal Oak, though despite it being cider country, there
isn't a wide choice as you'd expect from local farms. The decor is all exposed beams,
antique furniture and a large stone fireplace. Seating by this is interesting and there is
no piped music to disturb. Food is served lunch and evenings, though book for the
restaurant. Food is wholesome and good value for money. There is a large car park to the
side and a beer garden out back for summer months. Accommodation here (though not seen on
this occasion), handy for Taunton. Opening times: 11-2.30pm, 6.30-11pm; 12-3, Sun
7-10.30pm
