DURHAM.
Victoria Inn (86 Hallgarth Street, Durham: turn off A1 for Bowburn onto the A177 carry on for 2.5m the roundabout is at the top end of Hallgarth St) (0191) 386 5269. This is ostensibly a traditional Victorian pub in the city centre. There are three rooms including an old fashioned snug. No TV or jukebox to bother your drinking either. Popular with both students and locals with a warm (sometimes from the real fire) welcome for all. The interior is on the CAMRA inventory list. The B&B operation is quite separate, with its own entrance. Bedrooms are compact but bright, cheery and with modern en suites. They also have their own breakfast room adjacent. Guests can use the bar or not, as they prefer. No pub food is served, but there is an authentic atmosphere and a good guest real ale. On this time was one of the Tapster's choice range. It has 3 en-suite bedrooms and 3 family bedrooms available. Prices start from single room £35, double £42 - £45. Disabled access is possible.
