This is a 16th Century coaching inn
with contrasting bars, a quiet lounge and a noisier public bar. The lounge has
low ceilings and uneven floors. There is even a well in the gents! So don't fall
in after too many. Food is OK, but there's none on Sunday evenings in the
winter. Food is also served on Sunday Evenings. Accommodation here.

Very friendly atmosphere at
the White Horse Inn, Droxford - real family run environment. I had a
super stay (in the half tester bed), the room was very comfortable, the
breakfast cooked to order - nice. The evening meal, we could not
fault, real homemade steak pie with lots of fresh vegetables and homemade
rhubarb crumble - scrummy!. The beers here are Old Speckled hen,
Ruddles county (and more). My wife loved the range of malt whiskey's
- which the landlord knows his whiskeys and recommended the perfect after
dinner tipple. To sum up my stay - perfect. (Daniel Tarrent - 2003) |

Very shabby
accommodation. In need of money being spent. Overall impression was rather
grubby eg no mattress cover and badly stained mattress. Price charged was
higher than that on the web site. Owner very awkward and uncompromising when
this was raised. Attitude of the staff/owner unwelcoming. Everything was too
much trouble. Price greater than that agreed at time of booking and as
advertised on web site was the final straw. (16/8/04) |

Myself and my
wife have just recently taken this pub on and, as I'm sure you can
appreciate, there is a lot that needs to be done, especially in such an old
building. As they say, Rome wasn't built in a day, and we are striving to
make these improvements with as little disruption as possible. (Simon Dick -

Interesting
the difference in opinion between the previous two reviews, they couldn't be
much further apart! However, I have stayed in the White Horse many times
over the past 6 months or so and my experiences (from my first stay) have
all been positive and I have really been made to feel part of the family.
The food has always been very good and well above what one anticipates for
'pub grub', clearly prepared by people who care about food and how they
present it. Breakfast is made exactly how I want it (and when) and I have
regularly seen others benefiting from the same 'made to order' service.
Beer is good (Old Speckled Hen and Ruddles being my usual tipple).
Decor of the accommodation is rather tired (I believe due for some
redecoration in the very near future), but the bedding
and towels are all new, clean and of good quality and all is clean, neat and
well kept. Prices for all are very reasonable and I believe offer far more
for my money than other places at anywhere near the same price! Above
all I appreciate the welcome I am given at the White Horse. I am made to
feel very much at home and I know my custom is valued. (26/2/05) |
