Run by the same family for 17 years it is one of the oldest pubs around. With an open fire to warm you in winter and a large beer garden for summer. Beers on at the time were 5 ales including speckled Hen, Theakston's Best, Coniston Bluebird and guests. Food is served 12-9pm daily and is all home cooked.
A small pun set in a beautiful market town. The pub has plenty of character with low oak beamed ceilings and a huge fireplace for winter nights and a couple of picnic tables outside for summer. The layout of the Red Lion is unusual as there are many distinct areas served by a single bar. Real ales on here at time of visit were Coniston Bluebird and Jennings Snecklifter plus guest. Access for the disabled is good and the pub is close to the railway station. A 40 seat function room is also available. Food is only served in the evenings and is home cooked and tasty. There is a beer garden/patio of sorts at the front. Accommodation here, all en-suite.
