Not an easy pub to find as it's in a residential area up an
unmade road. The only visible sign from the road is a small menu board tied to a
lamppost.
Outside there is a fenced off stone flagged beer garden with picnic benches, though in
winter the dogs live here. Inside there is a central bar serving two distinct areas. On
entrance you walk directly into the bar where there is a real fire and dark wood round
tables and chairs on dark carpet. The walls are covered in bits and bobs, note the glass
cabinet with old bottled beers in. The main handpumps are here and although it is a free
house it served Bathams Best as a regular with occasional guest beers, though at time of
visit they were all from a national (Courage Directors & Best). A very busy pub in the
evenings, the second distinct area at the rear of the pub is for food with more spaced out
tables and it seems the primary aim of some to come eat here. Food is interesting and the
portions are large, though the prices run from £5.50 - £10 for main courses. However,
this reflects the quality and if you don't believe me you can pass the kitchen servery
hatch/viewing window on your way to the gents toilets and see for yourself. On a Sunday
night there were three cooking staff in there, all dressed up like chefs! There is a
choice for vegetarians too. Access for the disabled is not good with narrow walkways and
tables close together, though I'm sure if you rang first space would be made. No
accommodation here as the Why Not is in a residential area and serves its local community.
| Additional Notes: |
The pub has recently changed
managers and reduced it's beer choice, though food is still as good. (2003) |

The Why Not
has the best food and beer I have ever tried it is a must to go here the
food is always the best (it cant be beat). Its a bit expensive but its worth
it you get a lot of food for the money. The beer is always good the taste is
the best around the area by far its never a bad pint. They suit all types of
people with the beer a wide selection. Once you tried the food once you will
always go back for. (Garry Fowkes
