This was originally a drovers cottage in the 16th century. Situated on a fork in the road, it has an enormous inglenook fireplace that warms the whole 'L' shaped pub (spot the bread oven). The bar extends round to the recently extended bar/eating area. A second log fire helps to keep the temperature up in winter. As a cottage, the ceiling is low and originally beamed. Seating space is at a premium and it can get busy even at lunchtimes as it is popular for food. Tables and chairs (padded) are of the usual variety on a thick carpet. This is a Badger pub and serves Best, Tanglefoot and Eagle Bitter. The food is tasty and filling, though there is little for vegetarians in the way of sandwiches. Prices are average these days @ £5 - £7 for main courses. Service is prompt and you can get points for eating at Badger pubs - and points make prizes! The pub also caters for walkers as there are many forest walks round about. There is an outside tap to clean boots before entering. In the summer there is a beer garden and children's play area. Wheelchair access is good. There is no accommodation here and the nearest conurbation that does it is Wimborne. Also see the Hall & Woodhouse website.
