This is an
interesting pub on the outskirts of the centre and a little walk from the station or the
town hall. It's more of a traditional local with a skittle alley and function room rolled
into one (there is now a conservatory off the alley which seats up to 25). There is
decking and seating outside for the summer
and a small car park. The Suffolk Arms has been
redecorated and is bright inside as much as the two front windoes will
allow. They have a live music every Saturday, Karaoke
on Monday and open Mic Thursday. But best of all, Thai chefs (husband and
wife) who provide the finest Thai food at extremely good prices that Cheltenham
has ever seen. By the way, they also do a large English food menu (all
homemade) and a carvery with choice of meats every Sunday. They even do take away
Thai food with a 15% discount and serve
all meals up to 10.30pm. You may have originally come to collect your food
but will find yourself staying there all night.
There is some good beer on offer such as, Goff's Jouster, Breakespear Bitter and
occasionally Wickwar Brand Oak. The seating is chairs
and tables with some comfortable bench seats around the outside of
the room. The single bar is panelled and the
staff are very helpful and the beer is of the best quality. There is also a TV for
football if you like that sort of thing. The pub is open all day 11-11pm and 12-10.30 Sundays unlike most of the
pubs in Cheltenham. If you feel a bit peckish outside the food hours there is a good balti
place on the corner of the block which does cheap and plentiful meals. While the door is
narrow, there is room for a wheelchair, though be careful of the toilets as it requires
some nifty manoeuvring around and behind doors. There is no accommodation here, but
Cheltenham is one of those places for tourism and so there is plenty of B&B to be had.

| Additional Notes: |
Since its
thorough redecoration, its been kept very clean and tidy and is always warm
and welcoming. Since Alan & Rita took over in 99 it has had a massive
transformation and has become a lot more friendlier and hospitable place to
be. (March 2004) |
