The Clarendon
Arms has been a public house for over 400 years. Three miles
from Watford and a similar distance from Hemel Hempstead. The
Arms has had two extensions, one in the 50's and another in the
70's. You can see the different stages from the three different
roof pitches! It has remained unspoilt by the passage of time. They
serve bar food between the following times:
12-8.30pm Tuesday to Saturday and 12-5.30pm Sunday and Monday. Vegetarian meals are available.
Food is reasonably priced too, around £6.95. The bar is air conditioned and
there is a beer garden so you can
drink your beer outside on sunny days. If you enjoy the traditional atmosphere of an English pub, the Clarendon Arms should go to the top of your list of places
to visit. The friendly atmosphere, the warm, attractive surroundings and the excellent food are bringing in customers from far and wide. The Clarendon is at
Chandlers Cross, just a few minutes' drive from Watford or
Rickmansworth, and there's plenty of parking space. The area is delightful, so the pub is a favourite
with walkers: it's a lovely place for a stroll before your meal. Inside, you can
be sure of a warm welcome.
There are no fruit machines, and loud music is banned, except on Thursday
evenings. It's a free house so
traditional beers are always on tap; London Pride, Specked Hen and Tetley Cask, plus a guest beer, all well kept in perfect condition.

| Additional Notes: |
The Clarendon Arms has
recently been taken over by new management (Nov 2004). Since then they have
changed the menu to be entirely cooked to order. There is something for
everyone and there are daily specials. The food is traditional pub with a
slight twist. A welcome change to the same old same old. They are still a
free house but now have Speckled Hen, Bombardier, Courage Light Ale and a
guest from around the local neighbourhood. There has been a recent spree of
events ranging from food and wine fairs and real ale festivals. The new
management inform me that there will be some sort of event every month from
now until the end of summer. Enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the
bantering between staff and customer. Can't wait until the summer days are
longer to spend outside! (14/4/05) |
