CHALVINGTON.
Yew Tree Inn (near Hailsham, East Sussex) (01323) 811326. This is a small and intimate pub in the heart of the countryside. The structure dates from the mid-1600's and stands isolated on a quiet country road. It has a small garden. However, there is a large playing field, so it's not that isolated. The pub has two rooms with low ceilings that are comfortably set out and tastefully decorated. The beer is very limited though for a free house and Harveys best bitter is the usual. Food is plenty and home-cooked around ?5. There is a vegetarian alternative, but the choice is not wide. For the children there is an outdoor play area and they are welcome inside if eating. There is no accommodation here.
