Horseshoe Inn (Bridges, Nr Ratlinghope, Shropshire) (01588) 650260. Not far from the river Onny, this isolated pub has a beer garden outside from which you can wonder about the Long Mynd nearby. The bar has a real fire for winter and some unusual windows that have to be seen to be believed. Darts and dominoes are played here weekly. The rest of the decor is traditional wooden tables and chairs. Beers come from a keen landlord and are usually Shepherd Neame Spitfire, Adnams Extra and Southwold plus on this occasion Exmoor Gold, Ushers Spring Fever. Food (lunchtime only) is served in a small dining room and is traditional, rolls, sandwiches, soup, etc. Prices are not bad and there is usually a vegetarian choice for under £3.50. Access is good for the disabled. Look out for the no smoking area and the family room. No accommodation here but try: The Ragleth at Little Stretton, Ludlow Road. It does guest beers too.
