This is a traditional stone cottage style Cumbrian pub,
serving Barnsley Bitter, Black Sheep Best and a selection of Jennings beers.
Situated on the edge of the South Lakes near Windermere, you can easily go on
the lake via boat or walk the nearby fells and relax back here to end the day's exertions.
The frontage of the pub is unassuming, but there is a large car park to the rear
which is overlooked by a huge picture window in the multi-level pub. Inside the
traditional decor is supported by old photographs and paintings of Lakeland life
all over the walls. There are also hunting trophies and some brewery memorabilia
to keep your attention and add to the cosy atmosphere you find at the White
Hart. This is partly from the real fire which warms the cold winter nights in
the lakes. Sometimes closed in the winter, it is always best to check that it is
open at New Year before you travel. Food (children's menu available) is served lunch and evenings (Mon &
Tue 6-8.45pm, Wed-Sun 12-2.30 & 6-8.45) and varies
from the traditional to the something special - though so do the prices.
However, the food was excellent and the service came with a smile. The
accommodation is well kept, clean and tidy and the views from the windows
stunning first thing in the morning. Traditional pub games are also played here.
There is disabled access and toilet facilities. Children are welcome if dining under responsible adult supervision.
