The pub which has been open since 1998 could do with a
refurbishment, but was well maintained, the toilets were regularly checked by
friendly co-operative staff. The pub had a pleasant atmosphere and got very busy
especially on bitter. The pub catered well for disabled people and staff were
quick to help as much as they can. The decor was that of an inner city pub, just
basic tables, chairs, no fire place, could benefit from a larger no smoking
area. The lack of music was more than made up for with the constant buzz from
people laughing and joking. The bar itself was constantly wiped dry and staff
were quick to serve often serving more than three people at once. Overall a very
enjoyable visit. All cask ales offered were well poured and well looked after,
staff were very knowledgeable about beers and offered a try before you buy
scheme. Signs of spring was a very unusual ale (green in colour) but had a
lovely taste, but by far and away my favourite was the Abbott ale. Many of the
other ales available were guest ales, but this was served on a regular basis.
The pub also offered the regular range of draught beers, spirits and bottles.
Food is served here and was very nice, very affordable and delivered by polite
and cheery young staff. I ordered a rump steak which cost £4.99 with all the
trimmings. The young lady who brought it out was very courteous wishing that I
enjoyed my meal. Would definitely eat their again, all tastes are accommodated
for. Food is served Monday to Saturday 11am to 10pm and Sunday 12pm to 9:30pm.
Best about the pub was the friendliness of staff and quality of cask ales. the
worst if anything was the decor, it could do with a refurbishment, but it wasn't
too bad! (Mr. D. Smith)
