A cosy pub come restaurant under the new management of Alan and Ruth Faulkner. Alan and Ruth took over in November of 1999, bringing along northern hospitality, the couple have also brought along,  first class cellar management and a mouth-watering menu for the restaurant, which is set to do big things for the area in the near future. The restaurant is open for lunches, in the evenings and for the now very popular Sunday lunch. The Lamp is a Holdens pub, a much respected brewer in the Black Country and beyond.  Small, cosy and instantly inviting, the Lamp prides itself on being a traditional pub. The Lamp's restaurant, offers simple dishes, home cooked, nicely presented and at prices to fit all pockets.  As well as a varied menu, there are daily specials and soon, there will be a selection of themed gourmet nights, beginning with Indian. As a price guide, starters run from £1.50 - £2.50, with the most expensive item amongst the main courses, being the 10oz rump steak at £5.50 and this comes served with all the trimmings. Sunday lunch has become a firm favourite amongst the locals, even in the short time Ruth and Alan have been hosting the pub, with a 2 course traditional roast lunch costing just £3.95, it comes as no surprise. So, come and enjoy the pleasant surroundings and hospitality that only a nice old pub like the Lamp can offer. The restaurant serves balti meals.

Additional Notes: This is now a reasonably friendly though very smokey village local. Food is now only server Sunday lunchtimes (I didn't try the food as I was there on a Friday). The beer is still Holdens but it was so carbonated and so cold as to be almost tasteless so I can't comment on the quality.
Further to the last addition regarding food. The food is now basic plain English food.  i.e. Sunday Lunch at £2.50, which is good and ample.  My family and I went there for Xmas dinner (£20) for 5 courses and it was excellent. On the down side, the beer quality does tend to vary from average downwards.  THE STAG IS CLOSED AND WILL BE MADE INTO HOUSING! A VERY SAD LOSS.

An art deco pub rather like the Royal Oak in Brownhills. There are three drinking areas all served by the one bar. The pub is well worth a visit just to look at the decor and warm yourself in winter by the real fire. There are up to 8 guest ales on at any one time, all well kept and served. The Stag does food too (not Sunday evening) Monday to Saturday 12-9pm and a traditional Sunday lunch 12-4pm.

Additional Notes: Since the Stag was taken over by Nige Barker and Mark Satchell, it has gone from strength to strength, with regular beer festivals and ever changing good quality ale. Unfortunately, they are leaving in August, and there are rumours of plans to develop the Stag for housing.  This will be a great loss to the people of Bloxwich. (Jimbo Smith - 7/5/04)
