Located in the picturesque village of
Binham in beautiful North Norfolk. Not easy to get to, but if you
follow the A148 out of Fakenham and continue along for about
6 miles then turn left at the Crawfish Restaurant following the signs for
Hindringham, you are on your way. Continue on this road for 2 or 3 miles and
you’ll be in Binham. Easy! The Chequers Inn (owned by the village charity) is
towards the end of the village on the left. The Chequers Inn offers a welcoming
atmosphere and a range of good quality food and drink in a traditionally
comfortable Public house. The beers on at the time (they are installing their
own brewery there soon) were Woodfordes
Norfolk Nog, Nethergate Suffolk County, St Peters Golden Ale and Nethergate
Umbel Magna. All were served well and tasted great (a real cider is often
available on draught). The long thin bar has a no smoking end and the other
original end has the real fire and beamed ceiling. The Chequers does food and
has a regularly changing menu
including items like Butternut squash & roast pepper soup, warm goats cheese
salad, olives & sun dried tomatoes, deep fried whitebait & lemon. The main
courses are more substantial like half a fresh lobster thermidor, sea bass with
sweet potato mash & pimento cream, etc. Prices are to match and between £8 & £10
for a main course. Unfortunately children are welcome in the gardens but as they
don't have a children's certificate they are not allowed inside, even when
eating. There is accommodation here, but not seen on this occasion. Disabled
access is possible with full disabled toilet. Nearby is the English Heritage
Binham Priory.
