Although this is an Ansells pub it does serve
Morland Old Speckled Hen and that makes up for it. Once this pub was a coaching inn right
on the main road, as was, to Nuneaton. Now it consists of a public bar, lounge and a games
room where you can play out of the way from people carrying beer across the room. Food is
served both lunchtime and evening and is traditional pub fayre at a reasonable price.
Accommodation is also available.

This is a CAMRA entry most years. It serves a couple of
guest ales mainly towards the weekends and mainly from the national brands -
Greene King Abbott, Speckled Hen. The Nelson has one small public bar at the
front of the pub for the public which is decked out with benches and tables and
chairs. The bar is longish and has a low ceiling. The other side of the bar is
very small with a couple of stools and reminds you of a restaurant waiting area.
And that's really what it is as this part of the pub is for food. An 'E' shaped
room, it has seating at square tables for four,
often with tablecloths. There is
also the "Victory" restaurant, done up like the ward room of the ship "Victory".
In here you will find French and English cuisine at reasonable prices. The food
generally is good which is why it is best to book as it can get busy. Food is
served seven days a week both lunch and evening and there is a choice for
vegetarians - note the fish tank at the rear entrance. For the summer there is a
beer garden at the side of the pub. Access for the disabled is possible to the
"Victory" restaurant, but not really to the rest of the pub/toilets. No
accommodation here. This pub now has a brewery - Tunnel - in its outbuilding and
is presently serving two of its ales at the bar.
