This is the best pub in Alton and not to be confused with the pub across the road with a similar name. You are not far from the Watercress line here and Alton railway station itself. There is no parking here and the station car park costs a lot, so be warned. The pub reminds me of a seaside pub with its yellow exterior. You enter in the middle of the pub and the bar is slightly offset to the left and is 'U' shaped. On the bar you will find at least five real ales with a guest ale. The main ales all come from the Tripple FFF brewery for which the Railway arms is the tap. The left side of the bar is the open side with standing space and some bar stools - a couple of round tables with stools are available. The walls are decked with memorabilia and old bottles of beer. The gents toilets are also here and are like a tardis inside. The bare wooden floor and the stripped pine style of the bar are clean and welcoming. The other side of the bar has more intimate areas carved out with high backed settles, etc. The ales were all served without sparkler and were in tip top condition. alas there is no food served here, but you cant have everything. A large garden at the rear is supplemented by picnic tables at the front - though they are on the road so not a good air quality site. I recommend you stop off here for a drink if you are within 50 miles, you wont be disappointed.
