The Pooley Bridge Inn

The Inn is a lovely, family run hotel situated right in the centre of the stunning village of Pooley Bridge on the banks of the river Eamont. The room we stayed in was one with a four poster bed on the 1st floor. The room itself was small and the bed was a modern four poster nothing substantial like a great old fashioned four poster but it was nice and comfortable. Our room was nice and clean with a massive balcony overlooking the front beer garden and the village centre. The bathroom was a tiny en-suite bathroom, very small but had an excellent, clean high powered shower.

The restaurant (all day) is very nice, well decorated with lots of space between tables. The food here at the Inn is something special, Traditionally local fare is a house speciality with the likes of Fresh Local Trout and prize-winning Cumbrian Sausage gracing the menu. I had the big 16oz steak which came with chips, salad, veg and peppercorn sauce. I've never enjoyed a steak so much, 16oz of Pure steak, all the fat was removed before cooking. The steak is cooked however you like it, and mine was perfectly well done. Breakfast can be served on a reserved table or brought up to your room at a time that suits you so you can eat it on your balcony.

We stayed here for my girlfriends birthday and the staff at the Inn did everything to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. We reserved our table for our evening meal, when we went to dine we had a nice quiet table tucked away in a corner next to the bar, we had a flower and birthday card waiting for us off the staff who came over and quietly sang happy birthday to my girlfriend. The staff did anything they could think of doing to make us enjoy our night.

I would like to add a massive thank you to all the staff that added so many little extra touches to our weekend to make sure my girlfriend enjoyed her birthday. We will be returning to the Inn soon and plan to return for many years to come. Standard rates (2005) per person per night including breakfast, £75-£95. Please ring for longer or shorter stay rates.
