The Vine Inn

This pub is part of the local history and has been for over 100 years. The building itself was built 200 years ago as a bake house, but soon found a better purpose.

This pub has seen some action in its time, being a haunt of the pilots from Tarrant Monkton airfield during the major wars.

To get here from Wimborne just down the road take the junction just past the hospital and follow that road for about a mile and a half until you get to the second right turning and follow the steep hill up for about 800 yards and you suddenly come upon the pub. Of course you could come at it from the Kinston Lacy House end which is much simpler, but not as much fun.

There are two small areas inside, the first, main bar is at the bottom of the steps - you enter the pub via the beer garden. Sorry but no disabled access here, there are steps everywhere. The bar is so small, more than six people and you cant move to the bar. so most people move to the other room where there is seating at dark wood square tables with chairs. At a push you can retire the upstairs where there is a games room.

Beers on at the time were Fuller's London Pride which is a regular plus a guest ale (sometimes two), on this occasion it was Arkells Jubilee Ale served by gravity from the cellar. They also do a real cider.

Food is limited here with the occasional ploughman's at lunchtime and sandwiches, but not much else. If coming specifically for food I would phone first.

There is a beer garden for the summer with plenty of tables outside on a gravel base. Some of the tables still have the draughts sets they came with 20 years ago, though weather-beaten they are still serviceable.

The gents toilets are quaint with a tiled wall and a trough in the floor all you get - cold in winter as they are 'outside' as is access to the ladies.

The cricket ground is just up the road, beautiful for a summer's afternoon.
