The Red Lion

The Red Lion was originally a Joule’s house and like most of the medieval town centre it sits over Market Drayton’s Aquifer, the water source for our ales. Soft, pure mineral water, bored from directly beneath the site made the decision to build the new brewery here very easy. The pub dates back to 1623 and has been sympathetically restored to encompass the new brewery which has been built on a half acre site behind the ancient pub, as well as some land behind The Stags Head, our very good neighbour who sold a second parcel of land to us enabling us to build here.

The Red Lion is the flagship pub and home to the brewery. The brewers hall or 'mouse room' as it is known, was opened late in 2010, a lovely oak panelled room with exquisite carvings, a cosy log burner, and full length windows giving a live view of the brewery. This is also the hospitality room.

If you are lucky and see a squirrel on the back bar ask for a pint of secret squirrel you will be offered a sample of one of the trial brews - the head brewer likes to test his beer in full pub conditions rather than just the sample room.

There is good pub food served all day as well as a Sunday carvery in the mouse room.

An excellent pub.
