Peveril of the Peak

Not far from Oxford Road station, the Peveril is a unique building/pub. It is covered in green tiles on the outside and has a particularly nice door surround, where you can also find a bench for summer.

Once inside you are taken back in time to 1900 when space was always at a premium as transport didn't allow long journeys to work or play. The triangular site has enough rooms, it's just that they are all talking points. The triangular public bar has a nice inlaid fireplace with mantle. Tables and stools are placed round the walls on a dark carpet. There is also a wall heater here for cold winters.

The lounge has a bigger bar area and is curved again with the glass overhang. Seating is at tables with a combination of chairs and padded bench seating fixed to the wall. Flooring here is different and the decor has more pictures on the walls. The subdued lighting adds to the historic effect.

There is also a lobby area where you can get served wile standing up - useful if you had dirty clothes on. No style has been sparted here though and you can still see the ornate wooden bar and its glass surrounds.

The beers on at the time were a mix of well known and local ales, such as Duechars IPA and ales from Boggart Clough, plus those listed to the right. All were served well and tasted fresh.

There is no food here at all, so you had better eat before arriving as you wont want to leave once you get inside.
