The Fly in the Loaf

This pub is deceptive as it stretches back a long way from the road entrance. The long bar is to the right on entrance and has plenty of beer fonts and hand pulls. They have beers from Okells who own it plus a number of guests. All beers tried were served well with or without the sparkler. Prices were fair too.

There are stools at the bar and these are welcome only during the day. At night it gets difficult to get served with people sitting at the bar. A long bar is not always good for service, but the staff try their best. The seating is dotted all around with two rather nice window areas - steps though. They have sofas or stools and catch the sun when it is out. The rest of the pub has sofas and tables and chairs including a space at the rear for sport. The bare floors are cool in summer, but might be cold in winter, but the friendly atmosphere warms all who enter.

Food is served here, but not tried on this occasion. close to the central station for easy access and also close to the Philharmonic.

Also try three other pubs from Okells: Thomas Rigby's, Dale Street, Liverpool. The Bear and Billlet, Lower Bridge Street, Chester. Baroque, The Headrow, Leeds.

Comments

Good pub in busy street, excellent range of Okell, guest and Belgian beers. Friendly staff and good manager. You'll never be bored if you can get a window seat here.

Quite a new pub. it is a refreshibng change from the other pubs in the Hardman street area. Owned by Okells IOM Brewery, and offering beers from around the world, 50 diffrent beers on last count.

The Staff are excellent. Always well mannered and presented, and you never wait very long to be served. Ever changing Guest Ales make it a fantastic place to enjoy a nice pint. The prices are a little steep but it is the only place where you could enjoy such a vast amount of different beers in such a nice pleasant, calming environment. The windows at the front of the pub are amazing, and it is a great way to watch people scurry by why you sit enjoying a nice cold pint.
