THIS PUB CLOSED

Yet another ex-Whitbread offering of light pine and an airy interior. Situated not far from the railway station, this pub is long but narrow and has very high ceilings. This gives it the airy feeling and makes it feel less busy when it isn't. the long bar down the left can get crowded on a Saturday night, but apart from that it's relatively easy to get served - when the staff see you that is. Behind the bar are many bottled beers - all Belgian this time, plus lots of wines to choose from. Seating is round or square wooden tables and chairs. Some are situated in 'alcoves' and 'recesses' and a few are on a raised platform at the back. Access is good for the disabled as there is easy entrance to the toilets through huge double doors at the back. They had about 8 beers on at the time, my favourite at this visit was the Badger IPA. Food is served daily until 8pm. There are specials as well as the menu and 2 meals can be bought for ?5 at certain times. Food is well cooked, though feels like pre-packed and the portions can be a disappointment, which makes the price seem steep. There's no beer garden, but they do open the large front windows in summer to let the breeze in. if your in town, worth a visit. No accommodation here.
