Angel

This is a very pretty pub with two bars at the front of the pub, both wood paneled. The lounge has the smaller bar and a wood burning stove and oak wall benches in one corner. There are also some dark wood tables and chairs. The public bar has no carpet but a larger bar space. For d?cor there are whisky jugs all around the picture shelf. On the walls are hunting pictures not to everyone's taste. The ceilings are low and beamed which makes it feel cosy. This is primarily an eating pub and has a restaurant area through the back, though you can eat in the lounge or public bars. Piped music throughout can get a little tedious if you have no conversation as it's not a noisy pub in the main despite the trade it gets from Snetterton up the road. Toilets are basic, quarry tile floors and could be better. Access for the disabled is not good with narrow openings and small doors. Food is served till 2.30 lunchtimes and from 6pm - 9pm evenings. There is an extensive menu and vegetarians are catered for. Accommodation here at £53 double en-suite, £35 single. The East Harling BR station is not far away too. Guest ales on at the time were two from Chimney's, though they sometimes have four guests on and occasional beer festivals. Outside is a beer garden away from the road and the noise. The A11 can sometimes get busy and is difficult to turn onto due to traffic speed, probably influenced by drivers' visiting Snetterton.

Comments

Since the review was written, the A11 has been dualled and now runs along the back of the pub. The only down-side of this is that the beer garden is much less quiet. There is now a touring caravan and camping site in the field opposite. Very useful especially during the Beer Festival that is held in August. The old A11 is now very quiet (except at closing time!) as it only leads to Snetterton village, so getting out of the car park is no longer a problem. The railway station is called Harling Road, not East Harling. (11/1/06 - Don Grunbaum)
