The Three Crowns

The Three Crowns in outside Loughborough on the A6 towards Derby. Wide lane is just beyond the last set of traffic lights in Hathern going North. The pub reminds of an estate pub and inside it has its history etched on its walls. While the facade is long, the inside is narrow and small with two rooms served by the same bar. The one on the left is the 'lounge' bar with bench seating and tables and chairs. The spacing is cramped and at busy times difficult to get a seat. The rest of the decor remind one of formica and the 1970s. The bar is a dark affair with stools and an overhang. A number of handpumps were visible, but on this occasion there was only the Caledonian on. The second room which has the real fireplace has the corner end of the bar. Here you will find the dart board and more seating. Tables here were oblong with dark wood chairs on a bare floor. The atmosphere was very much a locals pub, though they were friendly enough when asked a question. One minus point was that the smoking inside produced such a fog it was hard to breathe. Worth knowing if you miss Loughborough for a drink, but the Swan in the Rushes in the city centre is a much better bet. No food here and no accommodation. Access for the disabled also difficult due to steps.
