The Fighting Cocks  

This is a charming pub set in the heart of the forest. It is situated ideally for walking, cycling and relaxing (dogs welcome). There is a bike rack outside and the public right of way for walking in the 'garden'. The garden also has a play area for supervised children. On the busy B3078 on the approach to Fordingbridge, this is a well used pub and has a double role with two separate areas; one for drinking, one for eating. The bar area is to the left of the picture, though the bar is in the middle. Here you will find dark carpets and dark wooden furniture - square tables and chairs. There is also bay window seating. The toilets are here as well, so there is a lot of traffic through from the eating area (no smoking). This is to the right of the picture and has access to the garden . This area has a large central fireplace for winter warmth; it also doubles up as the menu with chalkboards. Seating is at dark square tables with chairs on dark carpet. The tables are a little cramped, but bearable. Food is served here all day till 10pm and is traditional with steaks, chicken, etc. There is a limited choice for vegetarians too. Prices are a little higher than elsewhere, though range from ?5 - ?14. Service can be stretched at busy times, so be patient. There is a wide selection of real ales, usually four on at a time. These were all served well, with or without the sparkler. Prices are comparable to Salisbury/Southampton. There is a games room and a large beer garden with children's play area. The popularity of the pub can be seen by the large car park next to the pub. There is a bus service that stops outside, but busses in these parts are infrequent. For those who like some entertainment, there is a quiz every Monday night. Access for the disabled is possible through the door, but needs careful negotiation in the eating area - due to tables being tightly packed in.
