Hart’s Head Hotel  

The Hart’s Head is situated in the village of Giggleswick near Settle and is an ideal base for visitors who wish to take advantage of the Yorkshire Dales, the Trough of Bowland and the Lakes. It lies less than 1 mile from Settle railway station and the famous Settle to Carlisle line. It is also served by an hourly bus service to and from Skipton.

The hotel itself is a former 18th Century Coaching Inn built at the same time as the Turnpike from Kendal to York. It has been transformed by the present owners and licensees, Trevor and Barbara Reynolds who took over the pub in 1997. The hotel now boasts a very comfortable lounge with an interesting display of tea pots, a bar area with Sky TV and a cosy snug with a real coal fire in the winter months. Extensive renovations have meant that the hotel offers 10 en-suite rooms with satellite TV which has deservedly resulted in it receiving a 4 diamond classification from the English Tourist Council. The Hart’s Head is famous for its varied and interesting lunch and evening menu - excellent quality and choice at very reasonable prices. Early booking is often necessary.

Although it is popular with visitors the secret of the Hart’s Head appeal is that it is also a true locals’ pub lying at the heart of the village community. It hosts the dominoes team on Tuesday, pool on Wednesday and both darts and snooker on Thursdays, possessing a full sized snooker table in the refurbished cellar. On the first Friday of each month it is the venue for a well attended folk club whilst each Sunday evening the licencee Trevor acts as question master for the ever popular quiz night. Additionally, the Hart’s Head is also the venue for the meetings and gatherings of local sporting school and community groups - a warm welcome is assured to all!

The main reason for the award is however the quality, range and consistency of its beer. Under the direction of Barbara Reynolds and an ever cheerful, knowledgeable bar staff the beer is quite superb. The hand-pulled draught ales - Tetley's Bitter, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord and Copper Dragon 1816 are all kept in prime condition. Barbara also includes a range of ever changing guest beers particularly Deuchar's IPA, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin and a host of others - there are rarely less than 5 on offer at any one time! The Hart’s Head is a firm supporter of local and national CAMRA initiatives. In the 'Cask Week' in September it had no less than 12 real ales in a seven day period whilst it was awarded 2nd place in the 'Mild Trail' competition earlier this year. In the autumn of 2003 it was justifiably awarded 'Cask Marque' accreditation. The Hart’s Head has now been listed in the Good Beer Guide for the last four editions and it looks set to be a firm favourite for years to come.

Normal opening hours are Monday to Friday: 12 to 2.30pm (except Thursday) and 5.30 to 11pm. Saturday: 11am to 11pm. Sunday: 12 noon to 10.30pm.
