Malt Shovel
The Malt Shovel Inn is situated conveniently off J12 of the M40, and only two minutes from the slip road, making it the perfect break in your journey, a place to stop for a business lunch, or just a great pub to come for some home cooked food and welcoming atmosphere.
The Shovel serves real ales, usually four but sometimes five. All were well kept and served topped up. Unfortunately they only do ordinary wine, so no country wines or Continental beers. Food is served at lunchtime 12-2 and evenings 6.30-9, seven days a week. The whole pub is no-smoking including the restaurant.
You enter from the car park and the bar is on your immediate right. It is quite long so you should be able to get to it for service. A village pub it is not too busy early evening, so it very welcoming. It also has a raised area - what it calls the 'stage' area where you can relax on a comfy sofa below a stained glass window. Other seating is at pleasant tables and chairs throughout the pub.
There is a high ceiling area by the bar which has farming and other objects to remind you you are in the country. The stained glass window by the way has the name of the pub on it.
For the summer there are picnic tables in a cordoned off part of the car park and for winter there is a real fire. You are allowed to bring your pets, but they must be well behaved and able to mingle with other animals.
The Malt Shovel is between Stratford, Warwick, Leamington Spa and Banbury. Just up the road from is the Heritage Motor Centre, well worth a visit throughout the year.
