Green Dragon

This is the brewery tap for Evesham Ales, a 16th century coaching inn from 1510, is situated opposite the largest car park in Evesham and near the library. It is reputedly part of the old Evesham monastery. It has two bars, the lounge a small cosy carpeted place with fake gas (real) fire and seating for food. The public bar still has carpet and is still nice to be in. There is a room at the back for pool. Bench seats predominate, but are at least comfortable. On the way to the toilets there is a well under your feet. A small viewing plate allows you to see 35 feet down to the 'moving' water beneath. This is not where the water for the beer comes from. A plastic cover allows you to watch the water moving, but does not inspire confidence if you step on it. Close to the railway station, this pub does lunches from ?4 - ?7 and has a late supper licence until midnight (Thur - Sat), though can only serve you after normal hours if you are eating. Evening meals therefore only start at 9.30. The Green Dragon has brewed its own ales since 1992; the owner Steve supplies the pub and 4 other outlets, so you wont find these beers elsewhere very easily. The beers brewed are Asum (local pronunciation for Evesham) Ale 3.8%; Asum Gold 5.2%. You can tour the brewery if you like. If you don't like the idea of that, then take a moment to walk round towards the ladies toilet to see the brewery through a lot of windows. There are newspaper clippings in some of the windows for you to read. Traditional pub games are also played. There is accommodation available from ?48-?60, please phone in advance. This pub is open 12 - 3, 7 -11 (12 Thur - Sat). The accommodation is pleasant as there is plenty of space upstairs. Breakfast is full English and the staff are friendly, worth stopping over if you are in Evesham.
