Jolly Sportsman

The Jolly Sportsman is situated on a quiet cul-de-sac rural East Chiltington by the South Downs. It is 20mins from Brighton and since 1998 it has been run by Bruce Wass who was the Chef /Proprietor of the highly acclaimed Thackeray?s House restaurant in Tunbridge Wells. It's a gastro pub. They serve good quality locally sourced food in a relaxed setting. They still serve real ales from micro breweries and serve the ales directly from the cask. They also do a selection of bottled beers from Belgium, Germany and the Czech Republic. The bar area covers most of the original ground floor of what once was a Victorian alehouse. It is cool in summer and cosy, with a log fire, in the winter. The restaurant (no-smoking, bar food available too) has contemporary art and polished thick slabs of oak for the tables. For the summer there is a terrace with Moroccan tiled tables, candles, jasmine and clematis this is the most popular area for dining on a warm summer?s evening - there is also a beer garden.
