THIS PUB HAS CLOSED AGAIN AS OF JUNE 2012

A small country pub in what seems like the middle of nowhere. When we visited there was snow in the air and on the ground.

The welcoming double fireplace managed to warm the air of the single room. The central fireplace is a feature of the pub and warms the rambles and their dogs who flock to the pub to walk and sup good ale. The central pillar also doubles as a notice board for the home-made food served both lunch and evenings; Tue-Fri 12-2.30, 6-9, Sat 12-9, Sun 12-4. There are choices for vegetarians and the portions are good, fit for the healthy walking diet.

There were four real ales on at the time. All were well kept and served with or without the sparkler.

The décor of the pub is traditional country style, though some of the beams are fake and covered in old pump clips, horse brasses, naughty clock by entrance, yard of ale, tankards and cigarette cards in clip frames. There also the traditional country trophies of antlers, but we don't like those. Seating is at padded benches around the walls with the addition of stools round both square and round tables.

The single 'L' shaped wooden bar with overhang, serves four guest ales on a regular basis. There is a real fire here for cold winter months.

Access for the disabled is good with flat floors throughout, though the seating is close together which makes movement difficult. The toilets are also negotiable for the disabled and are clean, if basic.

A beer garden is available for the summer rambles and they also have a children's certificate.

Live music on Friday nights.
