Langton Arms  

A Greene King pub in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside. More a food pub than a drinking one, it still manages to serve some good ales. Just inside the village from the southerly end, it is on a tight blind bend. Not an imposing pub from the outside, it looks more like a row of houses. The car park is to the rear down a small access lane - plenty of space here to park. You can also enter the pub via the rear beer garden, which has picnic tables and a place for children to play. The inside of the pub has a single bar at the front. Here the seating space is limited to around the 'L' shaped bar and it can get busy even on a slow day. An all dark wood affair, the bar has an overhang and some stools for sitting by the bar. Only the long side seems to be used for serving, but the handpumps are a welcoming sight nonetheless. Seating on the wooden floor is a mixture of tables and chairs along with benches along some walls. These seating areas are quite cosy with nooks and crannies for intimate encounters. A second room opposite the bar has a fire/stove and more tables and chairs on a flag floor. The Langton Arms serves food and is well respected around these parts, in fact it won the "Best pub meal in Leicestershire 2002" award. For those of you staying at the accommodation opposite meals can be ordered in advance and delivered to your cottage! Prices are not cheap though, with soup ?3.25, char-grilled 8oz Sirloin steak with onion rings ?9.25. A bar menu is also available, but prices naturally reflect the clientele's ability to pay - check out the Porches and Jags in the car park to see what I mean. The restaurant area at the rear is a larger room with larger round tables to seat 8. Access for the disabled is possible to the pub and the restaurant area, but the bar can be difficult as it is cluttered. All in all, well worth a stop off.
