The Bug and Spider

This pub is believed to be the oldest in Calne dating back to 1682. This Grade 2 listed building is situated on the outskirts of Calne it has open views from the front across fields. Quentin and Elizabeth Harflett took over the Bug and Spider in October 1997, at the time the pub was called 'The Bricklayers Arms' and was in need of a total
refurbishment. Records show that there has been an hostiliery on the site since the 16th century, although the existing building is only some 200 years old. As
a grade 2 listed property all the alterations have been designed and built with this in mind. The first phase was to bring the building up to modern standards.
Little modern conveniences like inside toilets gave the locals a chance to celebrate! Inside there is a main bar and a pool room with jukebox. Outside there is a beer garden area with swings and sandpit for children, and an ample car park. Live music from solo or duo artists is a monthly event, and it has its own darts and pool teams which actively compete on a weekly basis. There is a dartboard in the main bar, and in a former stable (though it's not cold in winter) there is a pool table. While the regular beers are uninspiring there is a guest beer available most of the time. The pub now has a full wine list. Food is available as bar snacks during opening
hours except Sundays. Out back is the caravan site (book in advance) and beer garden. Accommodation is available at the Marsh View Hotel next door. This offers 12 en-suite rooms, including one that is suitable for disabled guests. The hotel has full disabled access.
